Student Welfare

South Coogee Public School endeavours to create a school environment in which students feel safe and secure in a consistent and caring environment. Students are encouraged to become active members of our school community and empowered through, for example our school parliament and to participate in decisions that effect their learning and their school.

The Student Welfare Policy encompasses our school rules, merit scheme and discipline policy and includes our school's approach to anti- bullying and anti- discrimination. The Policy aims to joint all members of the school community to create a democratic school environment.

Fundamental to the policy is our approach to school rules which are replaced with our Rights, Roles and Responsibilities. These reflect our communities' values of fairness, safety, care and respect. These are expressed as rights which have associated responsibilities to protect them. Rules are therefore derived from these rights and indicate the responsibilities that students at our school have.

Act of Kindness

We are a kind school! This year we are very lucky to initiate the Act of Kindness program at our school. The Defence Special Needs Support Group is providing the funds in order for us to participate. Each week at an assembly, a child or a group of children will be recognised for doing a kind act. The child(ren) will receive a special cake and certificate. Marion Parsonage in Victoria developed the program. It has progressed well through many schools throughout Victoria, and it is now spreading to other states. The website is http://www.theactofkindness.org.au.

Be on the watch for the kind children at our school!
